Puja Thali

A puja thali is generally a metal plate that contains certain essential components like unbroken rice grains, kumkum powder, incense sticks, camphor, coconut, betel leaves, hand bell, an aarti-diya and a kalava and some prasad in the form of fruits or sweets. People often decorate thalis with coloured rice or coloured powder and even flower petals. It takes great patience and care to make it look pretty. Puja thali is a tray or large container on which the entire puja materials are accumulated and decorated. In Hindu religious occasions, festivals, traditions and rituals, puja plate maintains an auspicious role. Uses of thali in many occasions like in Diwali more than one diya might be arranged on plate; in Rakshabandhan for keeping rakhi with diya, bael-leaves, datura flowers are essential in plate for Mahashivratri festival. Thus in different occasions and festivals, puja thali decoration varies with importance of the rites.
